Allegedly great moments in the history of camp, part one: “stay out of it, Nick Lachey!” (as told by The Soup)

Great. Now all we need is a “Romola Garai: The Thinking Person’s Keira Knightley” banner.
Or a fuckyeahromolagarai Tumblr. That’ll do, too.

1. So, it’s way speedier than any previous adaptation of “Emma” (except for the one we all cherish), but I just know I’ll be inhaling all four episodes in one sitting.

2. It’s ridiculous how much I’ve grown to like Romola Garai.

3. You can’t quite tell from the clip above, but JL Miller is unusually subdued as Knightley - some reviewers singled out his “residual bad boy charm” as an obstacle, as far as characterization and believability are concerned, but come on. Could you ever picture Knightley as sort of lacking in the charm department? You don’t need a bullet list of physical attributes to know what’s what.

4. It’s on, bitch.

“ OK: it’s society’s fault. If society insists on treating celebrities like royalty, there’s little point lambasting them for behaving like princesses. It’s nurture, not nature. And besides, the press is probably making it up anyway. Tales of the cosseted few whistling through an unreliable sphincter into the eyes and ears of the many: that’s entertainment news, that is. „

Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Lloyd Dobler on SNL.

So, ok, maybe it’s, you know, me, but the stalkerish quality of ’80s romantic comedies still hits a nerve. Nice to see someone else picks up on that.

(See also: Aidan Quinn in Reckless, which I recently saw after 10+ years and man is it creepy. Even if both leads now strike me as semi-robotic beings with almost no recognizable “human” feelings. Which helped, a little, in the “if he’s insane and so is she, maybe it’s not so bad when he chases her down for thirty minutes, ‘cause that’s just how their people go about doing things” area.

God, I’m a feminist fail.)
